Report: Jamaica can cancel RUSAL’s control over local company

MOSCOW, Apr 25 (PRIME) -- The Jamaican government can cancel Russian aluminum producer RUSAL’s control over West Indies Alumina Company (Windalco) due to the recent U.S. sanctions against the company, The Gleaner reported Wednesday, citing Minister of Transport and Mining Robert Montague.

"Despite UC RUSAL’s intention to continue to operate as normal, the Ministry of Transport and Mining's analyses indicate that normal operations will become increasingly difficult, especially if the company refuses to dilute its ownership," Montague said.

On Monday, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said that the U.S. can lift sanctions against RUSAL if businessman Oleg Deripaska cedes control.
